Sheila Harrod

Sheila's musical career began as a child in the Salvation Army in which her father, George Snook, was Divisional Bandmaster for the South and West of England.

By the age of fifteen, Sheila had passed all her examinations with the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music in both singing and pianoforte and went on to gain her Diploma as a Licentiate of Trinity College, London specialising in Class Music Teaching.

Sheila spent several years teaching music in a local comprehensive school before deciding to concentrate full time on her own Kentwood School of Music which now provides tuition in voice production, composition, pianoforte, the theory of music and stage technique.

She is the Founder and Musical Director of the Kentwood Choir, the Kentwood Junior Choir, the Kentwood Kompany and the Kentwood Children’s Chorus.

Sheila is a member of the Association of British Choral Directors and also of Equity, having acted as Chorus Mistress and Voice Coach with numerous musical shows as well as her own appearances on stage and in cabaret.

She has recently begun to give her own Voice Workshops to choirs around the country, specialising in the singing of lighter music and the presentation and visual staging of performances.

Sheila had the honour to be awarded the British Empire Medal (B.E.M.) in the 1993 new Year's Honours List for her services to music and to local charities.

Her interests outside the world of music include travelling, swimming, cooking, dining out and the theatre.
